OPEN CALL 2024: IV U:NEW DANCE WAVE FESTIVAL

We invite you to submit proposals for short choreographies, performances, and video films for events as part of the fourth edition of the U:NEW Dance Wave Festival in Warsaw. The festival aims to bring together the HOTELOKO movement makers collective with the Warsaw audience and to expand international collaboration. Additionally, one of the goals is to provide an opportunity for young and debuting artists (of all ages) who do not have access to a professional theater and dance stage in Warsaw, but are active and developing in the fields of contemporary dance, performance, activism, and related arts and activities, to present their work. An important mission is also the intergenerational meeting of debuting, emerging, and recognized artists from Poland and abroad. The festival will include four evenings between 27-30.09.2024 in the following spaces: Praga Południe Cultural Promotion Centre (Centrum Promocji Kultury) , Z. Raszewski Theatre Institute, Białołęcki Ośrodek Kultury.
Proposals can be submitted in various forms of movement, with a particular emphasis on contemporary dance in its various forms (improvisation, new conceptual dance, experimental choreography, performance, contemporary dance with elements of classical dance that present emotions and tell a story, and others). Preference will be given to shorter forms between 5 min. and 10 min. In exceptional cases longer works will be invited, up to a maximum of 20 min.
Who Can Apply? Anyone who wishes to showcase their dance/movement/performance abilities on stage, individuals working in the field of dance as a form of personal development, as well as artists from other countries, especially young, debuting, emerging artists who do not have the opportunity to present their work in Warsaw, and youth (aged 15+). In the case of applications from minors, parental/legal guardian consent is required. Artists can be from both Poland and abroad.
The themes of the works are open. Due to the realization of the evenings by the organizer, the HOTELOKO movement makers collective, we present the main idea of our activities.We create artistic, educational, and social projects addressing themes such as community, freedom, tolerance, empathy, mental well-being, democracy, education, human rights, urban fabric, and cultural identity. Our goal is also to draw special attention to topics related to ecology: green transformation, drinking water, solar energy, climate change, and the future of our planet. No greenwashing, but protopia, permaculture, and solarpunk. The voice of women is also very important to us: discussing gender equality and strengthening communities around ecofeminism. We aim to promote sustainable development, one element of which is producing fewer new choreographic works, but rather providing opportunities to present those that have already been created.

APPLICATION RULES
The festival will include four evenings between 27-30.09.2024.
Artists can be from both Poland and abroad.
Forms of presentation:
– live performance – choreographic étude
– film presentation – video dance or performance film
Duration of choreography:
Preference will be given to shorter forms between 5 min and 10 min. In exceptional cases longer works will be invited, up to a maximum of 20 min. Video can be shorter.

The organizer will decide and propose appropriate venues for the submitted works. By participating in the call for submissions, applicants declare their availability for all dates of the festival. The organizer will arrange the details of the work presentations with the selected participants.

Fee for participation ranges from 200 PLN to 1500 PLN gross, depending on the number of performers on stage, with the possibility of inviting artists with a significant body of work whose proposals align with the ideas of the HOTELOKO movement makers collective. The festival does not cover travel or accommodation costs in Warsaw. The organizer will individually negotiate the terms of cooperation and will respond to selected applications.
Venue Selection and Availability:
The organizer will decide and propose suitable venues for the submitted works. By participating in the call for submissions, applicants declare their availability for all dates of the festival. The organizer will arrange the details of the work presentations with the selected participants.
Technical conditions:
· Stage size: 8m x 6m or 7m x 5m
· White ballet floor and white backdrop
· Option to use a white screen on the backdrop
· Basic stage lighting
· Professional sound system
· Wireless microphone on a stand
· Video projector
Rehearsals on the day of the performance will be scheduled individually between 17:00 and 18:30 (ranging from 15 to 30 minutes). A very simple technical rider is preferred due to the large number of performers in the evening.
Submission Requirements:
- Complete and submit the online form
- It is mandatory to submit a video recording of the existing choreography (YouTube, Vimeo, WeTransfer, Google Drive, and other formats to be agreed upon—please do not send large files via email).
- Send 3 promotional photos, including at least 1 main photo for the biography of the choreographer, to agata@fundacjarozwojuteatru.pl. If the selected choreography has more than one artist, we will contact you for additional photos.
