Join us for Freedom Day with the HOTELOKO movement makers collective. This Warsaw-based collective, comprising Agata Życzkowska, Mirek Woźniak, Karina Szutko, and Maciej Feliga, is actively involved in contemporary choreography and dance, currently within the project “CODASI – Contemporary Dance for Sustainability and Inclusion.” CODASI is a consortium of representatives from five European partners from Belgium, France, Italy, Serbia, and Poland, focusing on sustainability and inclusion in contemporary dance. The project aims to compare the situations and strategies of choreography teams and collectives in different countries and develop methods that enhance the theme of sustainability. An important goal is also to integrate the contemporary dance audience, which is why one of the project’s events is held in Warsaw as part of the celebration of Freedom and Civil Rights Day – celebrated in Poland on June 4th, established by a resolution of the Polish Parliament on May 24, 2013. On this occasion, on Saturday, June 8, we invite you to the event titled “Freedom in Choreography / CODASI.”

“During this meeting, we will showcase what we do. We want to share our knowledge, practice, and our explorations in the field of sustainability and social inclusion as well as integration in art and everyday life. This meeting will consist of various elements: a work-in-progress show of our latest choreographic work ‘(M)others,’ we will present partial results of our work on the CODASI project, invite interested individuals to a movement practice and discussion. We are interested in social evolution leading to tolerance, and even broader, to acceptance and empathy,” says Agata Życzkowska, founder of the HOTELOKO movement makers collective and the author of this meeting’s idea.

“(M)others” focuses on an expanded concept of the mother, encompassing not only biological relationships but also social and territorial ones. The theme of MOTHER takes on an abstract form, delving deeper than just genetic or social relationships. It is an attempt to explore this universal role of “MOTHER,” which everyone carries within themselves, regardless of gender, age, sexual identity, skin color, abilities, or education. “(M)others” raises questions about the nature of family relationships, their durability, and possibilities for transformation. The idea of the performance opens a space for reflection on empathy, social expectations, and love despite differences. Searches related to a broader perspective on this theme, including particularly MOTHER EARTH, are also very important.
